Fitwel Champions Program

Fitwel Champion
Clark Construction Group, LLC today announced that it has become a Fitwel Champion, further solidifying its commitment to the health and wellbeing of its employees and to building sustainable communities.In addition to certifying its own offices, Clark will continue to advise its clients on the benefits of healthy buildings to both owners and tenants. Studies show that owners investing in healthy buildings see reduced operating costs, lower vacancy rates, and higher tenant retention while occupiers of green and healthy office buildings report improved productivity due to lower staff turnover, fewer employee sick days, and a decrease in employee absenteeism.
As the first general contractor to become a Fitwel Champion, Clark has targeted Fitwel certifications for seven of its offices: Baltimore, MD, Bethesda, MD, Chicago, IL, Irvine, CA, San Diego, CA, San Francisco, CA, and Seattle, WA.
“Our clients are have shown increasing interest in the nexus between building design and workforce performance,” said Chip Hastie, senior vice president of operations at Clark Construction. “We are excited to leverage the Fitwel platform to provide a healthier workplace environment for our employees while also serving as a knowledgeable advisor to our clients based on firsthand experience with the certification program.” As a Fitwel Champion, Clark will have ten Fitwel Ambassadors on its staff. Fitwel Ambassadors are leaders in the healthy building movement who are well versed on the evidence-based connection between building design, operations, and health, and have a clear understanding of how to integrate Fitwel strategies within buildings and workplaces.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The CDC, a federal agency that protects the US from health, safety, and security threats, has applied Fitwel to Building 107, part of its Chamblee campus in Atlanta, and received a 3 Star Fitwel Rating – the top rating available. The CDC will remain Fitwel’s research and evaluation partner moving forward, ensuring that updated versions of the rating system remain true to the scientific evidence available.

HDR
As a leading global provider of engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services, HDR's employees are the key to its success. HDR has strengthened its commitment to employee health and wellness by becoming a Fitwel Champion. In February 2018, HDR earned its first 3 Star Fitwel certification for their office in Arlington, Virginia. As a Fitwel Champion, HDR has committed to obtaining Fitwel certifications for a minimum of six of their offices, pursuing Fitwel for its new Boston and Seattle offices and new global headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, with other locations yet to be determined.

Kilroy intends to both continue pursuing Fitwel certifications for its stabilized buildings that qualify for the certification and to using the Fitwel system as a guide to making health-related improvements in its existing portfolio.
